SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical has restarted its 45,000 tonne/year isobutylene-isoprene copolymers (IIR) plant in Beijing on 27 September, a company source said on Thursday.

“The plant was restarted in the morning of 27 September and it will produce output in end-September,” a company source added.

Details of the plant’s operating rates were unavailable.

The major domestic IIR producer took its 45,000 tonne/year IIR unit off line on 1 August for maintenance and it was originally scheduled to be restarted on 30 August. However, the turnaround was extended to September, with no reason given.

With the restart of Sinopec Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical’s IIR plant, domestic IIR players are concerned that supply will increase, leading to an oversupply in the market, traders said.

The Chinese producer’s prices for IIR remain stable at yuan (CNY) 26,500/tonne ($4,200/tonne) in September, unchanged from August, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.
