SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Indonesia’s Sorini Agro Asia has increased its offers for spot sorbitol by $10.00/tonne (€7.70/tonne), reflecting firm tapioca starch prices, a company source said late on Wednesday.

Negotiations for October shipments of sorbitol are currently ongoing at $630-640/tonne FOB (free on board) Indonesia, the source added.

“We have seen tapioca starch prices moving up, based on the offers we are getting for October to November shipments of tapioca starch,” said the source, referring particularly to tapioca starch from Thailand.

Sorini Agro Asia fulfils its tapioca starch requirements from sources in Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines, according to the source.

Export prices of feedstock tapioca starch by the Thai Tapioca Starch Association (TTSA) were listed at $440/tonne FOB Bangkok for the week ended 25 September.

The listed export price includes the cost of 50kg polypropylene (PP)/polyethylene (PE) packaging bags.

Sorbitol is an artificial sweetener with applications in food products and pharmaceuticals.
