LONDON (ICIS)--Australian fertilizer producer Incitec Pivot Ltd (IPL) will decide by June whether to proceed with plans for an $800m (€621m) ammonia plant in Louisiana, the company said on Thursday.

The proposed new facility in Louisiana would produce 750,000 tonnes of ammonia per year, of which an estimated 35-50% would be exported through the Port of New Orleans.

A spokesman for the Melbourne-headquartered firm said the plant would take around two years to build and so would not commence production until 2016 at the earliest.

He added a feasibility study into the major project will end in the next few months and the company expects to make a final decision on the project by the end of June.
