SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Shaoxing Yuandong Petrochemical’s 600,000 tonne/year No 1 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Zhejiang province has been shut since 11 September for planned maintenance, and is expected to be restarted early next month, a company source said on Friday.

The restart date was 10 days later than originally planned because of mechanical issues, the source said.

Shaoxing Yuandong Petrochemical has a total of five PTA plants in Zhejiang – three of which that have a combined 1.9m tonne/year capacity are currently operating at 90%, the source said.

Its fifth and newest PTA unit, with a 700,000 tonne/year capacity, is due to start up in November, the source said.

Construction of the new PTA unit was completed in the first quarter of this year.
