SINGAPORE (ICIS)--PetroChina plans to start up its 2m cubic metre (cbm)/day gas liquefaction unit that can yield 500,000 tonne/year of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at Songyuan in Jilin province in 2014, the company said on Friday.

The construction of the unit started on 26 September, according to a statement by PetroChina.

The company plans to expand its LNG capacity at the Songyuan base to 2m tonnes/year eventually in future constructions, making it the biggest liquefaction facility in northeast China, the company added.

The facility is operated by Jilin Jigang Clean Energy, a 51:49 joint venture between Kunlun Energy and Jilin Oilfield.

Kunlun Energy and Jilin Oilfield are both subsidiaries of PetroChina.
