HOUSTON (ICIS)--US methanol contracts for October inched up to 132-133 cents/gal this week, with sources on Friday attributing the slight rise to continued natural gas curtailments in Trinidad.

Southern Chemical Corp (SCC) pushed the range higher with its posting of 133 cents/gal, up from 130 cents/gal for September. Methanex stayed with 132 cents/gal, the same as its previous monthly posting.

Methanex and SCC typically set the monthly contract range. The average of the October range, 132.5 cents/gal, is 1.5 cents/gal higher than in September.

SCC is the North American marketing arm for Methanol Holdings (Trinidad) Limited (MHTL), which has five methanol plants in Trinidad.

Two of MHTL’s plants - the 580,000 tonne/year M4 and the 1.9m tonne/year M5000 unit - went down for maintenance earlier in September to coincide with natural gas curtailments.
