HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene production in August totalled 4.528bn lb (2.05m tonnes), dropping by 1.5% from 4.598bn lb produced in the same month in 2011, consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy said on Friday.

Ethylene output in August fell by 2.8% compared with 4.657bn lb in July, the group said in its monthly Hodson report.

The drop was in line with lower operating rates last month.

US crackers operated at 92.2% of capacity in August, down from 94.8% in July as several units shut down or reduced rates at the end of the month in preparation for Hurricane Isaac, the report said.
