HOUSTON (ICIS)--CVR Energy is conducting an investigation into the cause of a fatal explosion at its refinery in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, a spokesperson said on Monday.
The explosion occurred on Friday as operators restarted a boiler, which was shut down during the refinery’s turnaround process, the company said in a statement.
One employee died, and another was critically injured.
Damage was limited to the boiler and did not affect process units or other areas, CVR Energy said.
Damage estimates were not immediately available, but the turnaround process resumed on Saturday, the company said.
The Wynnewood refinery has a capacity of 70,000 bbl/day.
