SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s JX Nippon Oil & Energy plans to restart its 460,000 tonne/year naphtha cracker at Kawasaki next week following an extended maintenance caused by mechanical issues, a company official said on Tuesday.

“We plan to restart the cracker around 8 or 10 October,” the official said.

The cracker was initially scheduled to resume operations on 28 September, after a scheduled maintenance that started on 13 August.

JX Nippon Oil will operate the Kawasaki cracker at around 70% of capacity this month, the source said.

The company’s olefins conversion unit (OCU) at the same site is still scheduled to restart on 12 October, the source said.

The OCU, which can produce around 140,000 tonnes/year of propylene, was taken off line at the beginning of August for maintenance.
