Japan's August ethylene exports up 32% from previous month

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s exports of ethylene rose by 32% to 56,980 tonnes in August 2012 from the previous month, official data from the the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) showed on Tuesday.

This is a 5% increase from the same period a year earlier, according to the ministry.

The country’s ethylene-equivalent exports – which include ethylene contained in derivative products – was 191,000 tonnes in August, a 34% increase from July and a 3.8% decrease from August 2011, the data showed.

Among the exported ethylene derivatives, exports of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) increased by 87% month on month to 28,426 tonnes in August, and doubled year on year, based on the data.

Exports of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) rose by 35% to 57,554 tonnes in August from the previous month, but decreased by 30% from the year earlier, according to METI.

Japan’s ethylene-equivalent imports was up by 0.7% month on month to 57,900 tonnes in August, but decreased by 7.7% year on year, the data showed.
