DUBLIN, Ireland (ICIS)--Egypt’s Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) is poised to sign a distribution deal with LANXESS for 1m tonnes/year of ammonium sulphate (AS) that will be shipped from Europe to the "world", a senior OCI executive said on Tuesday.
OCI could start shipping AS from Antwerp in Belgium as early as 1 November, the Cairo-based firm’s marketing and sales director for fertilizers, Marc van Doorn, revealed during the IFA Trade and International Production Conference in Dublin. While he did not disclose the destination, it is understood to be the US.
“We are close to acquiring the distribution of 1m t/y of AS from LANXESS in Antwerp to the world,” he said, without providing any further details about the imminent agreement.
A request for more information from OCI’s head office was rejected on the grounds of “confidentiality”, although the company expects to publish more details about “the precise distribution volume [and] effective acquisition date…within the coming two weeks”.
LANXESS officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
