HOUSTON (ICIS)--Monsanto’s fiscal 2012 fourth-quarter net loss widened to $229m (€176m), from a loss of $112m in the same period last year, as sales fell 6.1% to $2.1bn in a difficult corn-growing season, the US-based international seed and agrochemicals major said on Wednesday.
Monsanto’s loss from operations for the three months ended 31 August widened to $256m, from $70m in the same period last year, as gross profit fell 9.4% to $881m while operating expenses rose 9.1% to $1.1bn.
For the full 2012 fiscal year, Monsanto’s net income was $2bn, compared with $1.6bn in its 2011 fiscal year. Full-year sales were up 14% to $13.5bn.
