TORONTO (ICIS)--IC Potash (ICP) has awarded a contract for work on a feasibility study of its planned sulphate of potash (SOP) project in New Mexico, the Toronto-listed firm said on Thursday.

ICP said it awarded the contract to SNC-Lavalin, a Montreal-based energy and petrochemicals engineering firm.

ICP expects the study to be completed by August 2013.

The scope of the study includes recovery methods, project infrastructure, processing facility, and services to produce SOP and sulphate of potash magnesia from ICP's Ochoa project in south-eastern New Mexico, it said.

SNC-Lavalin will also develop a cost estimate and help ICP in the economic analysis of the project. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Ochoa has proven and probable reserves of more than 340m tonnes of ore “within the proposed mine plan,” ICP added.
