Fire extinguished at US ExxonMobil’s Baytown refinery

HOUSTON (ICIS)--The fire at ExxonMobil’s 584,000 bbl/day Baytown refinery in Texas was extinguished, the company said on Thursday.

ExxonMobil said the fire, which started around 17:00 hours Houston time (22:00 hours GMT) on Wednesday, was confined to a process unit, but did not name which unit was affected.

The fire was extinguished shortly afterward and remaining plant operations were not impacted form the event, the company said in a statement.

“There will be some impacts to production; however, we expect to meet our contractual agreements,” ExxonMobil said.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of this incident.

Spot gasoline premiums in the US Gulf region were stronger on Thursday afternoon following the fire.
