LONDON (ICIS)--Tessenderlo plans to invest €75m ($97m) to focus its chemical production site at Loos, France, on water treatment chemicals, the Belgium-based producer said on Friday.

Tessenderlo said it will build a new electrolysis plant for the production of water treatment chemicals, accounting for about €50m of the total investment sum.

At the same time, the company said it may close down the site’s production units for pharmaceutical intermediates and sulphate fertilizers, which are no longer competitive. The measure could affect 39 jobs.

The investment also includes a multi-year environmental improvement plan to manage soil pollution at Loos, the company added.
