SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Ellba Eastern (Pte) Ltd has declared a force majeure on supply of styrene monomer and propylene oxide, following an unexpected shutdown at its Singapore plant over the weekend, according to a document obtained by ICIS on Tuesday.

The force majeure took effect on 7 October, the company said in a notification sent to customers, citing a “mechanical breakdown” at its SM/PO plant in Jurong Island.

Ellba Eastern’s plant in Jurong Island produces 550,000 tonnes/year of SM and 250,000 tonnes/year of PO.

The duration of the shutdown is not yet known, according to the document.

Ellba Eastern is a joint venture between Shell and BASF.
