SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Swiss Clariant International opened a second production unit for its Exolit OP halogen-free flame retardant at the firm’s Hurth-Knapsack plant in Germany on Tuesday, the company said in a statement.

Exolit OP is used primarily in the electronics and electrical engineering sector, Switzerland-based specialty chemicals producer said.

The new facility doubles the capacity for the firm’s diethyl phosphinic acid aluminium salt (DEPAL)-based flame retardants, it said without specifying details.

“By doubling the DEPAL capacity…, the company is responding to the growing demand for safe and environmentally friendly FRs [flame retardants] for plastics in the global electronics and electrical engineering market,” the company added.

Financial details of the new production unit were not disclosed.
