TORONTO (ICIS)--Quebec agricultural cooperative La Coop federee is partnering with the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Co-operative (IFFCO) to build a Canadian dollar (C$) 1.20bn ($1.24bn) urea fertilizer plant in Becancour, northeast of Montreal, Canadian state media reported on Tuesday.

La Coop federee would take off about half of the plant’s 1.2m tonne/year capacity, with the remainder to be sold on Canadian and US markets, the report said.

Quebec’s provincial government is expected to help with the financing of the facility.

La Coop federee could not immediately be reached for comment. However, Quebec’s provincial natural resources ministry is expected to soon issue a statement, media officials said.

ICIS reported in June that IFFCO was looking for a partner to build a urea fertilizer plant in Canada.
