SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Malaysia’s BASF-Petronas  has restarted its 160,000 tonne/year crude acrylic acid (AA) unit in kuantan over the weekend of 6-7 October, market sources said on Wednesday.

The company recently shut the unit on 1 October because of a mechanical failure.

The crude AA unit is currently operating at about 50% of capacity and is expected to ramp up operation to full rates ‘soon’, market sources said.

The restart might provide slight relief in the already tight supply condition following the blast at Nippon Shokubai’s Himeji facility, but majority of market participants are still awaiting a clearer market direction, market sources added.
