LONDON (ICIS)--Novasep plans to invest €30m ($39m) to build the world’s largest chromatography plant for the production of a large-volume commercial active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), the firm said on Wednesday.

The France-based producer of advanced intermediates for the pharmaceutical, crop science and other fine chemical industries, will build the plant at its site in Mourenx, south of Bordeaux, it said. The facility is expected to start operations within 18 months, it added.

Novasep is making the investment in response to increased demand for its purification-based manufacturing capabilities in the life science industries, it said.

The new plant will “enable the production of a highly purified API from a complex mixture”. Chromatography is a purification and separation technique used in the production of APIs, among other applications, according to information on the company’s website.
