TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s domestic shipments of foamed polystyrene (PS), or PS paper, increased by 7.1% to 2,880 tonnes in September from the previous month, reflecting increased demand for roll trays and laminated bowls, official data from an industry association showed on Thursday.
This is, however, a 10% decrease from the same time a year earlier, according to the Japan Foamed Polystyrene Sheet Industry Association (JASFA).
Domestic shipments for roll trays rose by 6% month on month to 3,720 tonnes, and increased by 3% year on year, the data showed.
The country shipped 2,540 tonnes of laminated PS bowls in September, up by 7.2% month on month, and down by 10% year on year, based on the statistics.
PS paper is primarily used for packaging food products such as fresh seafood and meat, as well as making bowls for instant noodles.
