HOUSTON (ICIS)--LyondellBasell's Equistar Chemicals reported a unit shutdown at its La Porte complex in Texas following an ethylene release, according to a state regulatory filing on Thursday.

A relief valve prematurely lifted and released 2,965 lbs (1.344 tonne) of ethylene into the air on Wednesday, the company said in a report with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

Plant workers shut down the unit and depressured process gas to the flare, the company said.

A LyondellBasell spokesman would not comment on whether production was affected.

The La Porte complex has an ethylene capacity of 787,000 tonnes/year, according to ICIS plants and projects.
