MELBOURNE (ICIS)--China’s Shiyou Chemical on 11 October restarted its 320,000 tonne/year phenol/acetone plant at Yangzhou in Jiangsu province after the completion of safety inspections following a fire, a company source said late on Thursday.

The operating rate of the phenol/acetone plant, which has a phenol capacity of 200,000 tonnes/year and an acetone capacity of 120,000 tonnes/year, is being gradually ramped up, the source said.

The plant was shut on 10 October after a fire broke out at the hydrogenation unit of the plant’s fuel oil refinery.

The phenol/acetone plant did not sustain any damage from the fire.

Shipment of phenol/acetone cargoes resumed on the afternoon of 10 October, the source added.

Shiyou Chemical is a subsidiary of Kingboard Chemical Holdings, which operates a 200,000 tonne/year phenol/acetone plant at Huizhou in Guangdong province.
