HOUSTON (ICIS)--Foster Wheeler has won another contract for work on LANXESS’ 140,000 tonne/year neodymium polybutadiene (Nd-PBR) rubber plant project in Singapore, the Switzerland-based petrochemicals engineering firm said on Friday.

Foster Wheeler said that under the terms of the contract it will be in charge of the Nd-PBR plant's engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCm).

The contract award follows Foster Wheeler’s successful completion of the project’s front-end engineering design earlier this year, it added.

CIS reported previously that LANXESS'  €200m ($260m) Nd-PBR plant is expected to start up in the first half of 2015. Construction began last month. Nd-PBR is used in tyre manufacturing.

LANXESS is building the Nd-PBR facility – “expected to be the largest of its kind in the world” – alongside its 100,000 tonne/year synthetic butyl rubber plant, which is due to start up in 2013, Foster said. Foster was also the EPCm contractor for the synthetic butyl rubber plant, it said.
