US ammonia imports down by 11% in August year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ammonia imports in August were down by about 11% from the same month in 2011, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

US ammonia imports declined to 530,764 tonnes in August from 596,600 tonnes in August 2011.

Imports fell in August on fewer imports from Trinidad & Tobago.

August imports increased from 519,595 tonnes imported in July.

Trinidad and Tobago at 295,453 tonnes was the major source of US ammonia imports, followed by Russia at 90,845 tonnes, Canada at 88,183 tonnes and Ukraine at 55,748 tonnes.

Other sources included Korea and Taiwan.

Year to date through August, the US imported a total of 4,191,577 tonnes of ammonia.
