US melamine imports rose to 4,515 tonnes in August from 2,646 tonnes in August of last year.
Imports rose in August mainly because of increased product brought in from Trinidad & Tobago.
August imports also increased from 3,398 tonnes in July.
Trinidad & Tobago, at 2,940 tonnes, was the major source of US melamine imports, followed by The Netherlands at 1,041 tonnes, Germany at 382 tonnes and China at 150 tonnes.
The US exported 2,985 tonnes of melamine in August, down from 3,116 tonnes in July.
The UK, at 680 tonnes, was the major destination for US melamine, followed by Norway at 410 tonnes, Italy at 300 tonnes and Japan at 280 tonnes.
Other destinations included Canada, Turkey, Russia, Germany and Colombia.
The US exported 2,248 tonnes of melamine resins in August, up from 2,019 tonnes in July.
Major destinations included Mexico at 669 tonnes, China at 309 tonnes and Canada at 306 tonnes.
Other destinations included Brazil, Korea, India, Taiwan, Argentina, Singapore and Venezuela.
