HOUSTON (ICIS)--US butyl acetate (butac) exports in August jumped 59% year on year, mostly from increased shipments to Mexico, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Turkey, according to data released on Friday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
August butac exports totalled 9,236 tonnes, compared with 5,815 tonnes in August 2011, according to the data.
Shipments to Mexico, the top destination, totalled 2,473 tonnes, up by 43% compared with 1,734 tonnes in the same month last year.
Butac shipments to the UAE totalled 2,000 tonnes, up almost double from 1,019 tonnes in August last year. Turkey took 1,000 tonnes compared with none in the same month of 2011.
Major US butac producers include Dow Chemical, Eastman Chemical and Oxea Group.
