HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethyl acetate (etac) exports in August rose by 37% year on year, largely on shipments to Brazil and Chile, according to data released on Friday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
Etac exports totalled 1,861 tonnes, compared with 1,360 tonnes in August 2011.
Brazil and Chile accounted for all of the increase and then some, receiving 462 tonnes in August compared with virtually none in the same month last year.
Etac imports, usually about twice as large as exports, totalled 3,259 tonnes, down by 11% compared with 3,660 tonnes in August last year, on much smaller shipments from Brazil and China.
Etac is a major ingredient in inks and coatings, particularly in nail polish.
Major US etac producers include Celanese and Eastman Chemical.
