HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acetic acid exports in August jumped 42% year on year on much larger shipments to Belgium and on increases to Mexico and Spain, according to data released on Friday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
US acetic acid exports totalled 97,709 tonnes in August, compared with 68,942 tonnes in the same month of 2011.
August shipments to Belgium - the largest destination - totalled 41,874 tonnes, up by 79% compared with 23,396 tonnes in the same month of 2011.
Shipments to Mexico - the second largest destination - rose by 26% to 33,451 tonnes, compared with 26,594 tonnes in August 2011.
Major US acetic acid sellers include BP, Celanese and Eastman Chemical.
