US p-wax imports down by 37% in August year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US paraffin wax (p-wax) imports in August decreased by 37% from the same month in 2011, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

US p-wax imports fell to 13,778 tonnes in August from 22,012 tonnes in August 2011.

Imports fell in August mainly because of decreased product brought in from China.

August imports also decreased from 20,992 tonnes imported in July.

China was the major source of US p-wax imports at 7,100 tonnes, followed by Canada at 3,546 tonnes, Malaysia at 1,397 tonnes and Japan at 441 tonnes.

Other sources included Iraq, India, Saudi Arabia, Netherlands, Germany and Venezuela.

The US exported 2,148 tonnes of p-wax in August, down from 3,812 tonnes in July.

Canada at 712 tonnes was the major destination for US p-wax, followed by India at 650 tonnes and Mexico at 516 tonnes.

Other destinations included China, Germany, France, Ecuador, Australia, Taiwan and Brazil.
