US urea imports up by 36% in August year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US urea imports in August were up by 36% from the same month a year earlier, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

US urea imports rose to 576,071 tonnes in August from 423,801 tonnes in August 2011.

Imports rose in August mainly because of increased product from Russia.

August imports increased from 287,606 tonnes in July.

Canada at 158,471 tonnes was the major source of US urea imports, followed by Russia at 94,924 tonnes and Oman at 72,484 tonnes.

Other sources included Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates and Trinidad and Tobago.
