SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Sinopec Luoyang may begin the construction of a new 10m tonne/year crude distillation unit (CDU) at Luoyang in Henan province in late 2012 as part of its refinery expansion plan, a company source said on Monday.

The refiner is waiting for the final approval from China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) for the yuan (CNY) 19.6bn ($3.1bn) expansion project, which should be granted within this year, the source added.

The new CDU will increase the company’s refining capacity to 18m tonnes/year from the existing 8m tonnes/year, according to the source.

Some auxiliary units including a 3.5m tonne/year fluid catalytic cracker, 2m tonne/year continuous reformer, a 200,000 tonne/year aromatics unit will be built at the same time, the source added.

The new CDU is expected to come on stream in 2015
