SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Formosa Plastics Corp’s (FPC) 168,000 tonne/year tubular ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) plant in Mailiao is currently undergoing maintenance, which may last up to the end of October, a company official said on Tuesday.
The plant was taken off line in the last week of September and was initially scheduled to restart after mid-October, the official said.
“We have yet to restart the plant, maybe [we will do that] at the end of the month,” the official said without providing reasons for the delay.
FPC also operates a 72,000 tonne/year EVA/low density polyethylene (LDPE) swing plant in Mailiao that is currently running normally, the official said.
This plant may be taken off line for some minor maintenance in the near future although the exact dates have yet to be confirmed, he said.
Major EVA producers in Asia include Taiwan’s USI Far East; South Korea’s Honam Petrochemical and Samsung Total; Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical, DuPont-Mitsui Polychemicals and Tosoh Corp; China’s YPC-BASF (BYC), Beijing Organic and DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers; Singapore’s The Polyolefin Co Singapore (TPC) and Thailand’s TPI Polene.
