SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shanghai Sinopec Mitsui Chemicals shut its 120,000 tonne/year bisphenol A (BPA) unit at Caojing in Shanghai on 13 October for annual maintenance, a company source said on Tuesday.

The turnaround is expected to last for a month, the company source added.

The BPA unit was previously shut on 22 September, because of a mechanical issue.

The shutdown of BPA unit will result in tightened supply in the market, which will support prices to some extent, market players said.

However, the Chinese producer has sufficient inventories for its contract customers and will continue supplying them during the turnaround.

Shanghai Sinopec Mitsui Chemicals is a joint venture between Chinese major company Sinopec and Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals.
