SAO PAULO (ICIS)--Brazil's fertilizer sales in September increased by 0.1% year on year to just over 3.4m tonnes, the Fertilizer Distribution Association (Anda) said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Brazil’s fertilizer production in September fell by 8.2% to 866,294 tonnes from the same month last year.

In the first nine months of 2012, sales grew by 4.1% year on year to just over 21.2m tonnes, Anda added.

Output during the first nine months of 2012 totalled nearly 7.2m tonnes, down 0.8% compared with the same period of 2011, the association said.

Imports totalled just over 14.7m tonnes in the January-September period, down 1.8% year on year, Anda added.

Sales grew in the January-September period mainly as a result of higher demand for sugarcane, cotton, coffee, corn, rice and soy, the association added.
