HOUSTON (ICIS)--November contract prices for US phthalic anhydride (PA) are expected to be flat as a result of feedstock orthoxylene’s (OX’s) October contract rollover, market sources said on Tuesday.
The US PA contract is normally settled based on the previous month’s US OX contract settlement.
There was no change to US PA contract prices for October. Molten grade PA was at 83-90 cents/lb ($1,830/tonne, €1,409/tonne) FOB (free on board), and flake grade PA was at 84-91 cents/lb DEL (delivered), as assessed by ICIS.
Meanwhile, supply and demand in the US PA market was stable, with no disruptions anticipated, even with two planned plant turnarounds scheduled this month.
“Everybody seems to be well covered,” said one market player.
“No changes in supply/demand from my perspective. Balanced for us even with the planned outages,” said another market source.
PA is a key intermediate in the production of plasticisers, which are used to make products such as flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Major US PA producers include BASF, Koppers and Stepan.
