Japan's domestic ABS resin shipments rise by 5% in September

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s domestic shipments of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) resin increased by 5% month on month to 19,123 tonnes in September, reflecting increased demand for electric appliances and general machinery, industry data showed on Wednesday.

However, domestic shipments in September declined by 16% from the same period a year earlier, according to Japan’s ABS resin industry association Nihon ABS Jushi Kogyokai.

Among the domestic applications of the shipments, ABS resin used in electric appliances rose by 2% month on month to 2,195 tonnes in September, but fell by 25% year on year, official data showed.

ABS resin used in general machinery increased by 5% to 2,161 tonnes from August, but declined by 8% from a year ago, statistics showed.

Domestic shipments of ABS resin for automobiles were down by 1% month on month to 7,278 tonnes in September and decreased by 21% year on year, according to the data.

Japan’s exports of ABS resin declined by 5% to 10,925 tonnes in September from August and decreased by 26% from a year ago, the association said.
