LONDON (ICIS)--BASF plans to restructure its “Beauty Creations” business in France, a spokesman for the German chemicals major said on Wednesday, but he did not confirm reports that this would lead to 90 jobs cuts.

Thomas Nonnast, a Germany-based BASF media official, told ICIS that the company's plan to relocate products produced in Lyon to a site at Pulnoy, near Nancy, was still in its project phase.

“I cannot confirm the numbers mentioned in French media reports,” Nonnast added. The reports, citing union officials, had said that 90 jobs would be cut.

Nonnast said the relocation would take a number of years to complete.

“We will insure that all products are re-qualified, as appropriate, as part of the process,” he added.

“Product development will be centralised to our Beauty Creations site in Pulnoy, though we will continue our world class tissue engineering science in Lyon and utilise our existing clinical evaluation group in Long Island, New York,” Nonnast said.

“To date, it is not possible to say more about this project: It is under preparation and our partners will understand that we inform first our employees and their representatives of our decisions,” he said.

“We will inform externally when these decisions will be taken,” he added.
