HOUSTON (ICIS)--LyondellBasell should finish maintenance work at its vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) plant in Texas by the end of this week, sources said on Wednesday.
The 380,000 tonne/year unit in La Porte began maintenance earlier this month. Sources said in late September that the unit would go down in October.
LyondellBasell would not comment on the status of its plant.
“We continue to supply our customers with product,” said company spokesman David Harpole.
There was also talk of another VAM unit doing a turnaround in October, but sources were not specific and producers did not return calls immediately.
There are five US VAM plants, all in the Houston area.
Spot VAM prices have remained stable in October, with the free-on-board (FOB) export range assessed by ICIS at $900-1,000/tonne (€693-777/tonne).
Major US VAM producers include DuPont, Dow Chemical, Celanese and LyondellBasell.
