RIO DE JANEIRO (ICIS)--LANXESS said on Thursday it will benefit from demand for high-performance tyres, which is expected to grow by 77% by 2015.
The Germany-based specialty chemicals producer said demand will grow as a result of new environmental rules in Europe.
New tyre-labelling requirements in Europe are expected to indicate how environmentally friendly the tyres are in terms fuel consumption, wet grip performance and noise.
The labelling requirements for Europe are expected to take hold in November.
The new labelling is expected to take effect in Brazil by 2016, said Marcelo Lacerda, president of Lanxess in Brazil.
According to a study made by KPMG International, Brazil could become the world’s third biggest car consumer in 2016.
As part of its effort to expand its capacity worldwide, LANXESS recently doubled its neodymium-polybutadiene capacity to 40,000 tonnes/year at its plant in the Brazilian city of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Pernambuco.
LANXESS made its statements during its Rubber Day Brazil presentations to promote its products.
