SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s methyl methacrylate (MMA) inventories in September fell by 9.8% month on month as producers have reduced their production volume, according to industry statistics released on Friday.

As at end-September, the country’s MMA inventories stood at 26,752 tonnes, lower by 2,911 tonnes compared with end-August levels, according to the Japan Petrochemical Industry Association (JPCA).

The reduction in inventory levels is not attributable to improved demand for MMA in September as Japan's overall MMA output in September fell by 13.8% or 5,441 tonnes month on month.

A heavy turnaround season in October may tighten MMA supply in the market and prompt a rebound in prices.

Japan can produce 554,000 tonnes/year of MMA, according to ICIS data.
