SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Germany’s Evonik Industries plans to start up a 230,000 tonne/year hydrogen peroxide plant in Jilin, northeastern China, in late 2013, a company source said on Friday.

Evonik marked the completion of the construction for the hydrogen peroxide plant with a ceremony on 19 October, the source added.

“This investment will serve to further consolidate our leading position in the market for hydrogen peroxide,” Dr. Klaus Engel, the CEO of Evonik Industries, said at the ceremony. “It sees us systematically pursuing our investment strategy in Asia.”

Evonik’s overall production capacity of hydrogen peroxide globally is 600,000 tonnes, excluding the new plant in Jilin.

A dedicated pipeline for hydrogen peroxide in Jilin will enable Evonik to supply the product directly to an adjacent propylene oxide plant operated by Jishen Chemical Industry.

A long-term supply contract has been agreed between both producers, the source said.
