SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Jiangyin Jihua New Material is constructing a 30,000-40,000 tonne/year new natural grade polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) plant in Jiangyin, Jiangsu province, a company source said on Monday.

The exact dates for commercial production have yet to be confirmed, but it is likely to be in first half of 2013, the company source added.

Some market participants said there might be an oversupply as there will be two other major plants, Chang Chun Plastics’ 120,000 tonne/year PBT plant at Changshu in Jiangsu province and Henan Kaixiang Chemical’s 20,000 tonne/year PBT plant in Henan, starting up next year while demand is weak.

PBT is applied in the manufacture of automobile parts, computers and electrical devices.
