SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shanxi Yongxing Coking is running its new 200,000 tonne/year methanol unit at Linfen city in Shanxi province at 29% capacity, a company source said on Tuesday.

The new methanol unit was started up on 16 October, the source added.

While the unit is expected to achieve on-spec product only at the end of October, the Chinese producer started commercial sales today, the source added.

The company has a separate 100,000 tonne/year methanol plant at the same site. This plant, which uses coal as its feedstock, can produce 200 tonnes/day of methanol, the source said.

More than 90% of the company’s product is sold to the dimethyl ether (DME) manufacturers in Henan province, the source added.
