LONDON (ICIS)--BASF has opened its second polyurethane (PU) applications technology centre in Russia, the German chemicals major said on Tuesday.

The centre, at Vsevolozhsk, near St Petersburg, is part of Elastokam, a BASF joint venture with Russian company OAO Nishnekamskneftechim.

It will provide comprehensive technical services and sales know-how for modern systems, the company said.

“With our investment into a second Russian site we emphasise the significance of this region for BASF,” said Raimar Jahn, president of BASF Polyurethanes.

BASF has an existing Russian Elastokam PU system house in Nishnekamsk, which began operating in 2000.
