HOUSTON (ICIS)--ExxonMobil reported flaring from its Baytown olefins complex in Texas during the weekend and market sources on Tuesday said the company was having an outage at the site.

ExxonMobil has two crackers in Baytown with a combined 2.2m tonnes/year of ethylene capacity.

It was unclear if one or both units were affected.

ExxonMobil on Saturday reported flaring from Baytown in a public filing, citing an "equipment failure" as the cause of the emissions.

"The cause was due to the loss of a seal on a gas compressor," the company said in the filing, which listed emissions of benzene and butadiene (BD) and two other chemicals.

An ExxonMobil spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

US ethylene prices were up on Tuesday, with October material trading at 55.00 cents/lb ($1,213/tonne, €934/tonne), up from 54.25 cents/lb on Monday.

($1 = €0.77)
