The plant will take advantage of the new ethylene and propylene capacity that Dow is adding to its complex in Freeport, Texas.
Dow did not disclose the capacity or cost of the plant.
The world-scale facility will help Dow meet increasing global demand for EPDM, said Kim Ann Mink, business president of Dow Elastomers, Electrical and Telecommunications.
Using Dow’s newest catalyst technology, products will be sold under its trademark NORDEL IP Hydrocarbon Rubber, which is used in automotive weather-stripping, hoses and belts; building profiles and roofing membranes; footwear; and general rubber products.
Dow is searching for a site for the plant, which will begin operations in 2016.
