HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene production in September totalled 4.512bn lb (2.05m tonnes), rising by 6.4% from 4.241bn lb produced in the same month in 2011, consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy said on Thursday.
Ethylene production in September by volume fell by 1.7% from 4.592bn lb in August, but when measured on a daily rate output rose by 1.5% compared with the previous month, the group said in its monthly Hodson report.
The increase was in line with higher cracker operating rates last month.
US crackers operated at 94.9% of capacity in September, up from 93.5% in August on minimal outages and planned turnarounds, the report said.
Crackers in the US Gulf that were off line or ran at reduced rates at the end of August because of Hurricane Isaac were all heard to have resumed full rates by early September, the consulting group added.
US crackers ran at 89.3% of capacity in September 2011, according to the report.
