SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) started up its 200,000 tonne/year acrylic acid (AA)/acrylate ester plant at Huizhou in Guangdong province, south China, on 28 October, the company said in a statement on Monday.

The Chinese oil producer held an opening ceremony for its new AA/acrylate ester plant on Sunday.

CNOOC invested a total of yuan (CNY) 2.75bn ($439m) on the new plant, according to the statement. Construction of the plant started on 6 July 2010 and was completed on 10 April 2012.

The domestic prices of AA and acrylate esters in China is expected to continue its uptrend in the near term as a result of tight supply, market players said on Monday.
