MELBOURNE (ICIS)--China’s Zhejiang Xinhua has started up its new 10,000 tonne/year methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) plant at Jiande city in Zhejiang province, a source close to the company said on Monday.

The company has achieved on-spec MIBK output and is building up its inventory in preparation for sales, the source said.

MIBK, which is derived from acetone, is largely used as a solvent for industrial paints and thinners as well as in the production of rubber chemicals.

Other MIBK makers in China include Ningbo Zhenyang, Jilin Petrochemical, Zhenjiang LCY General Chemical and Taizhou Petrochemical.

Jiande city is southwest of Hangzhou.
